Russian state propaganda media (RT) loses the trial

Russian state propaganda media (RT) loses the trial.

Russia’s state-run propaganda broadcaster Russia Today, known as RT, has lost its court battle with the European Union.

According to this decision, the broadcast of RT will remain blocked in EU countries. RT was trying to appeal its ban to the EU, a decision taken in March following the launch of Russia’s unprecedented military aggression in Ukraine.

However, the European General Court rejected the appeal. As part of a wide-ranging package of sanctions against the Kremlin, the EU suspended the broadcasting of Russian media such as Sputnik and RT.

At the same time, Russian propaganda and especially RT is expanding beyond Europe. The broadcaster is setting up its first Africa hub in South Africa as the Kremlin seeks to increase its support in the African region.

RT’s South Africa bureau will be headed by Paula Slier, an editor who previously ran RT’s Middle East bureau.

Russia Today, which is funded by Russia, was founded in 2005 and has websites in multiple languages, including English, French, Spanish and Arabic.

The channel is banned in several countries, including France, as well as the former Soviet republics of Lithuania and Latvia.

In the United States he was required to register as a foreign agent and the British authorities revoked his broadcasting license.
