Liz Truss has said she would be ready to use Britain’s nuclear weapons.
The hot favorite to become Britain’s next prime minister in less than two weeks says pushing the button is ‘an important task’ for people in the role.
At a meeting at Birmingham’s NEC last night, the topic of nuclear weapons came up because of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war with Ukraine.
Looking mostly impatient and emotionless, Truss replied that “I think it’s an important job of the prime minister and I’m ready to do it”.
When pressed about how it would make her feel, she then added, “I’m ready to do it.”
Most of Britain’s leadership candidates and prime ministers have said they would be prepared to use nuclear weapons in the event of an Armageddon scenario.
Foreign Secretary Truss is widely expected to defeat former chancellor Rishi Sunak and be announced as the new prime minister on September 5.
