Grandmother caught with five kilograms of heroin.
An eighty-one-year-old woman from Denmark was arrested at Warsaw airport after five kilograms of heroin were found in her suitcase. According to Polish officials, the value of the foamed heroin is $515,000.
Customs officials at Frederic Chopin Airport decided to search the woman’s luggage because they were suspicious of her behavior and route of travel. They found heroin in the suitcase under the false bottom.
The woman traveled from Africa to Canada via Poland. She said she had no connection to the heroin found and that family members had given her a suitcase of gifts for relatives in Canada.
She was arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of opiates. She was remanded in custody for three months and prosecutors have started investigations.
Under Polish law, she faces up to 15 years in prison for illegal possession of narcotics.
