Electronic Arts (EA) has admitted it has “scored a spectacular own goal” after mistakenly pricing its Fifa 23 Ultimate Edition game at €0.052 on the Indian region’s Epic Games platform.
Buyers rushed to pre-order the game last month after the big blunder saw the game’s price slashed by 99.98 percent online. The game publishers have agreed to maintain pre-order prices. Fifa 23 will be EA’s final game in the best-selling football series.
EA’s sports division announced earlier this year that they will no longer be producing the FIFA title. They will continue to produce soccer video games, but from 2023 they will have another title, Ea Sports FC.
The announcement, which was made in May, brings to an end the 29-year collaboration between EA and Fifa, with licensing costs said to be one of the reasons behind the publisher’s decision. FIFA has announced that it plans to publish its rival games.
