Dell is the latest tech giant from the West to leave the Russian market – closing its offices in the country.
The American company was one of the main suppliers in Russia, joining other companies that have left Russia since Moscow began its occupation of Ukraine in late February.
Dell has suspended all sales in Ukraine and Russia in February – on the pretext that it will monitor the situation to decide on the next steps.
“In mid-August, we closed our offices and stopped working throughout the territory of Russia,” said Mike Siemienas, a spokesman at Dell.
“At the end of February, we made a decision not to sell, stop services and technical support for our products in Russia, Belarus, Donetsk and Luhansk of Ukraine, as well as the annexed Crimea,” Siemienas said, among other things.
We recall that Russia annexed the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine in 2014, where later – in February of this year, Donetsk and Luhansk regions joined it – a move that has been condemned by Ukraine and Western countries, calling it an illegal act.
On the other hand, the Russian Ministry of Industry has announced that many researchers and engineers who previously worked for Dell in Russia have been offered new jobs.
