At least 16 people were killed and three others were hospitalized after a truck collided with a stationary minibus in Russia’s Ulyanovsk region on Sunday, local law enforcement said.
“According to preliminary data, the driver of a heavy goods vehicle did not slow down in time and hit a stationary minibus,” the interior ministry of the Ulyanovsk region said in a statement.
Roadworks at the scene meant the minibus was waiting in a queue to move, the statement said. “The minibus was stuck between two trucks,” the ministry said.
Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation. It is reported that the truck driver was among the victims.
