VW is looking for a buyer for their factory in Russia.
Volskwagen is trying to sell its auto parts assembly plants in the Russian city of Kaluga, and a Kazakh carmaker could be a potential buyer.
Citing an anonymous source familiar with the company’s intentions, Volkswagen would finalize its plans for the plant by the end of the year.
Volkswagen spokesman Nicolai Laude said: “We are constantly monitoring the latest developments and are considering several different scenarios for the future. However, no decision has been made yet.”
During March, Volkswagen announced that production at its factories in Kaluga and Nizhny Novgorod will be halted until further notice, due to sanctions imposed by the West after the start of Russian aggression in Ukraine, and that the export of cars from their side in Russia would be stopped immediately.
The Kaluga plant could be bought by Kazakhstan-based Asia Auto, which operates in the eastern city of Oskemen. This company has the license for the production of Volkswagen and Skoda cars.
Volkswagen employs about 4,200 workers at the Kaluga plant, which is under their ownership.
They also have a contracting agreement for the assembly of some models at the factory in Nizhny Novgorod, which is under the ownership of the GAZ Group.
