Ukraine wants to investigate deaths in prisons.

Ukraine has demanded that the United Nations and the Red Cross be allowed to investigate the deaths of more than 50 Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) in an attack on occupied territory.

The Red Cross said it is seeking access to the prison to help evacuate and treat the injured.

Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of attacking the camp.

Unverified Russian footage shows charred human bodies and extensive property damage.

Exactly what happened at the Olenivka prison camp, which is controlled by the separatist Russian-backed Donetsk People’s Republic, remains unclear.

Ukraine says the country was targeted by Russia in an attempt to destroy evidence of torture and killings. President Volodymyr Zelensky described the incident as a “Russian war crime”.

For its part, Russia said the camp was hit by a Ukrainian precision missile.

Otherwise, they are said to be members of the Azov battalion, who were captured defending the southern city of Mariupol in May and whom Russia has sought to describe as neo-Nazis and war criminals.
