TikTok’s global security chief Roland Cloutier is leaving as the company switches to using US-based Oracle servers to store Americans’ data.

The company released an internal memo about the change in its editorial board, which said that Cloutier will take the position of adviser, while Kim Albarella will be temporarily in the position of global security chief.

“Following our recent announcement regarding the change in data management for the US, the time has come for me to step down as Global Head of Security and move into a position as a strategic advisor, focusing on the impact of business of security and trust programs, working directly with Shou, Dingku and other senior leaders,” Cloutier wrote in the memo.

Roland Cloutier, who had joined the company since 2020, will officially step down from his position on September 2.
In June, TikTok announced that it had started sending the data of Americans to Oracle servers to quell fears that the Chinese state, where ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, is based, has unlimited access to these data. data.

TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew and ByteDance deputy chief technology officer Dingkun Hong said the change came as a way to “alleviate concerns about the security of US users’ data.”

A TikTok spokeswoman said Cloutier was not involved in managing TikTok’s new department dedicated to handling US user data. She also said the company’s move had begun work months before American politicians asked them to.
