The court of Kiev reduces the sentence of the Russian soldier.
Kyiv’s Court of Appeal announced on Friday that it is reducing the sentence of 21-year-old Russian soldier Vadim Shishimar.
Shishimarin was sentenced to life in prison on May 23 in Ukraine’s first war crimes trial since the Russian invasion. His sentence has been reduced to 15 years in prison, Telegrafi reports.
He was found guilty of killing a 62-year-old civilian during his deployment to the Russian army in the early days of the war.
Shishimarin was charged with premeditated murder and conspiracy. The Kyiv Court of Appeal said judges no longer believe it was a deliberate plot.
Shishimarin’s latest hearing scheduled for Monday had to be postponed following a request by Shishimarin’s lawyer, Viktor Ovsyannikov, after he felt ill.
