Lufthansa cancels flights, asks passengers not to come.

Germany’s leading airline Lufthansa has been forced to cancel almost all flights due to an announced staff strike.

The company announced that its employees have announced a one-day strike, which will take place on Wednesday, but that due to the consequences it will bring to the company, it is forced to cancel almost all departures from Frankfurt and Munich airports.

It was also announced that the flight schedule will most likely not be normalized until the end of the week. In total, more than 1,000 flights were canceled, while it is estimated that around 134,000 passengers were injured. Verdi, the airline’s union, has called about 20,000 workers on a strike aimed at increasing wages.

Michael Nigemann, head of human resources at Lufthansa, criticized the move, calling it premature, which comes after just two days of negotiations over the wage increase. He added that the strike will affect passengers, especially now that it is the “peak season”.

Lufthansa said the main airports in Frankfurt and Munich will not be the only airports affected by the strike. The airline also expects this to affect airports in Berlin, Bremen, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Hannover and Stuttgart.

Due to the strike, the airline advises passengers not to come to the airport without a purchased ticket, as almost no counters in the terminals will be open.

It also advises users not to use the mentioned airports as “places to connect to another flight”, because it may happen that they run out and have to wait for days for new ones.
