Helicopter crashes into the sea while fighting fires in Greece.
A helicopter crashed into the Aegean Sea this afternoon while trying to put out a fire in a forest on the island of Samos.
One person is reported to have been rescued and three others are being sought.
“The rescue operation is underway after the crash of the helicopter that took part in the fight against the forest fire in Samos,” said a representative of the fire brigade.
“One person has been rescued and three others are being sought,” said a coast guard representative.
A forest fire broke out in Samos around 14:00 while three helicopters and five planes were sent to the firefighting operation along with around fifty firefighters.
Strong winds are blowing in that province while temperatures reached up to 30 degrees Celsius during the day in the Greek state.
