Brazilian held his wife and children captive for 17 years.
Luiz Antonio Santos Silva from Brazil was arrested after he was found to have held his wife and two children captive for 17 years. A family was rescued from a house of horrors west of Rio de Janeiro.
Upon reaching the house, the police officers found two children, 19 and 22 years old, lying on the floor tied and dead of starvation. Their mother was lying in the next room, as it turned out later.
After the rescue, the woman said that her husband had told her that “only dead people can leave the house”. She said that she and her children had been without food for three days and that Silva physically abused them almost every day. The two were married for 23 years.
Military Police Capt. William Olivera said the children, due to malnutrition, look much younger. After being rescued, they were taken to hospital for treatment for severe dehydration and malnutrition.
The Internal Affairs Service of the Civil Police has opened an investigation as to why the family was not saved earlier, since as reported by the local media, the family’s condition was reported to the competent bodies in 2020.
