Gunmen kill worshipers at a church in Nigeria.
Gunmen have killed church members in the southwestern Nigerian state of Ondo, President Muhammadu Buhari has said.
He added that “only demons from the lower region” could have done that.
Armed men stormed St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo during a service Sunday. They shot at the group of believers and then abducted a priest as well as several other church visitors, witnesses said.
Nigeria has experienced an increase in violence in recent months.
Kidnappings and attacks have been reported across the country.
No death toll has been confirmed in Sunday’s incident, as well as the number of abductees.
But a doctor at a local hospital said “some believers were killed”. After visiting the church and hospital, state lawmaker Ogunmolasuyi Oluwole said that children were among the dead.
