McDonald’s leaves Russia after more than 30 years.
McDonald’s has launched a process to sell its business in Russia after more than 30 years of operating its restaurants in the country, in response to the Kremlin’s military aggression in Ukraine.
In March, McDonald’s closed all of its restaurants in Russia, including the store on Pushkin Square in Moscow, which was the first in the country.
The company closed all 850 restaurants in the country, in which it stated that it employed 62 thousand people.
“The humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine and the unpredictable operating environment have led McDonald’s to conclude that continued business ownership in Russia is no longer sustainable,” McDonald’s said.
In Russia, where McDonald’s directly manages more than 80 percent of restaurants, it accounts for 9 percent of the company’s revenue and 3 percent of operating profit.
