Germany will send heavy weapons to Ukraine

Germany will send heavy weapons to Ukraine.

Germany will send seven howitzers to Ukraine, the Defense Ministry said on Friday, adding heavy weapons shipments to help Kiev against Russian occupation.

Panzerhaubitze 2000s howitzers are from the army stock and currently Germany does not use them.

Germany’s announcement comes after five obus of the same model were sent to Ukraine from the Netherlands, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht said during a visit to Slovakia.

The German army has about 100 2000s howitzers in stock, but only 40 of them are ready for combat.

No date has been set yet for when these weapons will be sent to Ukraine.

Ukrainian soldiers are expected to be trained in Germany next week to use howitzers.

The government of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has faced criticism for not providing as much weapons to Ukraine as Western allies have offered. But in late April, Berlin agreed to send tanks to Ukraine.
