Zelensky criticizes countries that are buying Russian oil
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused European countries of continuing to buy Russian oil.
In an interview, the Ukrainian head of state singled out Germany and Hungary, accusing them of blocking efforts to impose an embargo on energy sales, where Russia earns over 300 billion euros a year.
There has been growing frustration among Ukraine’s leadership with Berlin, which has backed some sanctions against Russia but has so far resisted calls to support tougher action on oil sales.
“Some of our friends and partners understand that now is another time, that it is no longer a matter of business and money,” Zelensky said, adding that “it is a matter of survival.”
The president also reiterated calls for more arms supplies, saying they were not being received quickly enough to avert Russia’s attack.
Ukraine is now facing an attack east and south as Russia tries to annex more territory than Crimea in 2014.
