Twitter will limit the account of Putin.
Twitter has restricted the contents of more than 300 official accounts of the Russian government, including that of President Vladimir Putin.
Accounts will no longer be recommended in deadlines, announcements or elsewhere on the site, Twitter announced.
The accounts have previously been criticized for spreading misinformation during the Ukraine war, but unlike Twitter messages from Russian state-affiliated media, they have not previously been the subject of specific Twitter moderation.
The latter has been very limited in Russia since the invasion of Ukraine.
The company said it would take action against any country that “restricts open internet access while they are involved in armed conflict.”
The Russian government collectively has millions of followers in many accounts, including some operating from the Russian president’s office, Russia’s foreign and defense ministries, and diplomatic missions.
The Twitter announcement comes after critics noted the discrepancy between the company’s previous actions to restrict Russian state media to its platform – such as content from Sputnik and RT – and its relatively simple access to Russian government accounts.
