The head of the UN arrives in Ukraine.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has arrived in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, ahead of talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

In a message on social networks, he wrote that “I arrived in Ukraine after visiting Moscow.”

“We will continue our work to expand humanitarian support and ensure the evacuation of civilians from conflict areas. The sooner this war ends, the better – for the sake of Ukraine, Russia and the world,” he wrote.

Yesterday, UN chief and President Vladimir Putin “agreed in principle” on the commitment of the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross to evacuate civilians and soldiers from the Azovstal steel plant.

The latter, which has been almost completely destroyed by Russian attacks, is the last well-organized resistance in Mariupol.

About 2,000 troops and 1,000 civilians are said to be sheltered in bunkers under the destroyed structure.
