Russian troops withdraw from Zhytomyr to Ukraine.
According to the governor of the Ukrainian city of Zhytomyr, Vitaliy Bunechko, Russian forces have withdrawn from the northern region of Ukraine.
Bunechko stressed that this region, which lies west of Kiev, is no longer occupied by Kremlin troops, who left the region and part of their ammunition behind.
“They left, leaving half of their military equipment and ammunition,” Bunechko told Ukrainian media.
Earlier this month it was reported that collective buildings and hospitals were bombed by Russian forces in Zhytomyr.
Speaking of airstrikes at the time, local officials said the Russians were hitting Zhytomyr on both sides – both collective and industrial buildings – targeting infrastructure.
The withdrawal of Russian troops is taking place in order for Moscow to refocus its capabilities in eastern Ukraine, particularly in the Donbas region, which has the largest Russian-speaking population.
