Russia is suspended from the UN Human Rights Council

Russia is suspended from the UN Human Rights Council.

The United Nations General Assembly has just voted to suspend Russia from its Human Rights Council during a session in New York.

In fact, 93 countries voted in favor of the US and UK-led motion, while 24 countries voted against and 58 states abstained.

Russia is being prosecuted for war crimes by Kremlin troops in the Ukrainian state.

Ahead of the vote, Ukraine’s ambassador to the UN, Sergiy Kyslytsya, accused Russia of “terrible” abuses – raising the issue of alleged killings of civilians in the city of Bucha.

Russia’s envoy, Gennady Kuzmin, condemned the vote and other nations, including North Korea and Syria, expressed support for the Russian state.
