Rheinmetall plans to send 50 Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
German company Rheinmetall, which produces weapons and other defense equipment, is preparing to supply Ukraine with 50 used Leopard 1 tanks.
The company’s chief executive, Armin Papperger, told the German daily Handelsblatt that the first tanks could be delivered within six weeks – with the rest over the next three months.
Leopard 1 was introduced in 1965, which over the years was replaced by Leopard 2 currently used by the German armed forces.
Papperger said he believed Ukrainian soldiers could be trained to use tanks within a few days – if they had previously conducted military exercises.
