Guterres has met with Lavrov.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met in Moscow today with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, despite criticism from Ukrainian leaders that he had not gone there to speak on their behalf.
Guterres made his first visit to the Russian capital since the beginning of the occupation of Ukraine, and stressed that he was looking for a way to “peaceful elections” and as soon as possible.
“We are very interested in finding a way to create the conditions for effective dialogue, to create the conditions for a ceasefire and to reach a peaceful agreement,” Guterres said.
“I know we have different interpretations of what is happening in Ukraine. “But this does not limit the possibility of talks, and we are working hard to reduce the suffering of the people,” added the UN Secretary General.
