Germany approves the shipment of weapons to Ukraine

Germany approves the shipment of weapons to Ukraine.

The lower house of the German Bundestag parliament on Thursday overwhelmingly approved a petition in support of Ukraine supporting the surrender of weapons, including heavy weapons, to help it fight Russian attacks.

“In addition to widespread economic isolation and Russia’s secession from international markets, the most important and effective means of halting Russian occupation is to intensify and accelerate the proliferation of effective weapons and complex systems, including heavy weapons,” the petition said.

The petition was backed by all three parties in the ruling coalition as well as opposition conservatives, passing with 586 votes in favor, 100 against and seven abstentions, according to Bundestag Vice President Wolfgang Kubicki.

With this, the German Bundestag seeks to send a signal of solidarity and support for Ukraine, but also to show unity within German politics.
