Bayern Munich played with 12 players for 17 seconds.

Bayern Munich warmed up their engines in Freiburg before leaving for Spain to face Villarreal next Wednesday in what will be the first quarterfinal match of the Champions League.

The six-time European champions prevailed over Freiburg, taking a 4-1 victory.

Leon Goretzka, already in good condition after a knee injury, started the Bavarian victory, before Petersen equalized, and then followed by goals from Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and Sabitzer.

But victory can be in jeopardy: Julian Nagelsmann’s team played a few seconds with 12 players on the field.

Specifically, the Bayern players had an extra player for 17 seconds and Freiburg could claim an improper match.

Nagelsmann made a double substitution in the 85th minute and Coman, who had to leave the field for Sabitzer, did not leave the field of play.

The match had to be interrupted and resumed with a showdown. In August last year, during the first round of the German Cup, Wolfsburg in the Cup made six changes, one more than was authorized against Preussen Muenster and was excluded from the race.
