208 protesters arrested in Russia.

A Russian organization that monitors political arrests said 208 people were arrested today in anti-war protests in Ukraine held across Russia.

OVD-Info said the protests took place in 17 Russian cities, from Siberia to the most populous cities in the west of the country.

More than 70 people were arrested in Moscow and a similar number in St. Petersburg, the organization said in a statement.

A video released by another group monitoring the protests, “Avtozak”, showed some detainees being transported to a police detention center as they smiled and held flowers. The others were being forcibly sent to police cars.

The government of Russian President Vladimir Putin has cracked down on dissident groups even before Russia launched its offensive against Ukraine in February.
