The world of sports has targeted Putin.

As Russia continues its occupation of Ukraine, a host of international sports organizations and governing bodies have also responded by targeting Vladimir Putin and his athletes with harsh sanctions in various forms, and the Russian president has been stripped of numerous sports honors.

Especially Russian and Belarusian athletes were not allowed to compete in the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) also announced that it had withdrawn the Olympic Order – the highest award of the Olympic movement – given to Putin.

Meanwhile, the governing body of world football, FIFA, and the European football body, UEFA, have suspended all international teams and Russian clubs from their competitions “until the next announcement”.

“Vladimir Putin has been passionate about sports and the use of sport to project Russia’s importance on the world stage and to give the Russian people back a sense of pride in their success on the world stage,” said Michael Payne, the former head of marketing in the IOC

The situation does not show improvement and Putin may face even tougher sanctions in the coming days.
