The mayor of Hostomel has been killed.
Russian troops have killed the mayor of Hostomel, Ukrainian officials have announced.
This town is very close to the Ukrainian capital Kiev and a strategic point als where the fierce fighting is taking place between Ukrainian and Russian forces.
The town council announced that Yuri Prylypko had died while distributing bread and medicine to those in need in areas under the control of Russian forces.
He was killed along with two other people – Ivan Zorya and Ruslan Karpenko.
A statement from Hostomel’s Council said he had “died a hero”, but also mentioning that it was impossible for him to be buried immediately due to the circumstances.
With its nearby airfield, Hostomel has been fought over since the beginning of the war on February 24. Most of the original 16,000 inhabitants have fled.
