Nissan plans to stop production in Russia.
Japanese carmaker Nissan has planned to halt production at its plant in Russia due to “logistical challenges”. Nissan Motor did not give a specific date, but said production would stop “soon”
Its St. Petersburg plant produced 45,000 vehicles last year, including the X-Trail sports vehicle. The Yokohama-based manufacturer said the safety of its employees is its top priority. Nissan previously banned exports to Russia.
Nissan also decided to show its support for the Ukraine.
Earlier Nissan had announced that it is going to join the other automakers that have pledged to help the humanitarian missions in the war-struck Ukraine. Called the Nissan Cares fund, the automaker aims to seed up to 2.5 million euros, or around $2.7 million, to support the crisis.
Out of the 2.5 million euros, 1 million euros ($1.1 million) will be donated to the Red Cross and other non-profit organizations while the other 1.5 million euros will be used to provide financial stability and ongoing support for Nissan employees who are affected by the crisis.
