Netflix is testing new ways to stop password sharing.
Netflix announced that it is testing new ways to stop password sharing between external users on its platform, including a new feature that will require users to pay an additional fee to allow this.
“While (separate profiles and multiple broadcasts) have been extremely applied, they have also created confusion about when and how Netflix can be shared,” said in a statement Chengyi Long, director of product innovation at Netflix.
“As a result, accounts are being split between families – affecting our ability to invest in great new TV and movies for our members.”
Netflix will conduct the first tests in Chile, Costa Rica and Peru, where subscribers will receive notifications about their ability to add an additional viewer to their account for a discounted price: CLP 2,380 in Chile (which i falls 2.70 euros), 2.99 USD in Costa Rica (2.71 euros) and 7.9 PEN in Peru (1.92 euros).
