France warns of tough sanctions that target Putin.

During the day there was a phone call between French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and their Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

The French presidency has now leaked more information about what was said during the nearly 90-minute conversation between the three politicians.

Macron and Scholz called for a ceasefire and an end to hostilities before starting a structured discussion on future moves.

Putin showed no will to end the war in Ukraine, says Macron’s office.

The French statement goes on to specify what might happen in the coming days.

The new sanctions will be considered in the coming days in Brussels by EU members.

The sanctions will take into account recent war developments including the siege of Mariupol.

The purpose of these historic “Iranian-style” sanctions is to isolate the Russian president and remove him from the international community.
