Russian media reports that the former Prime Minister of Dagestan, Magomed Abdulayev, has died in an accident in Makhachkala.

According to media reports, Abdulayev was crossing the road outside the marked pedestrian crossing when a 55-year-old man ran into him in a Lada Niva.

His death follows a string of deaths of prominent Russian tycoons and officials who have died under mysterious circumstances since the start of the occupation of Ukraine.

Abdulayev was otherwise close to former Russian president and prime minister Dmitry Medvedev, and also a staunch opponent of the war in Ukraine.

Although he was immediately transported to the hospital, the Russian media reports that he died from serious injuries.

He was crossing the road outside the pedestrian crossing when the Lada Niva crashed into him. There is no mention of whether the driver has been arrested.

Magomed Abdulayev headed the government of Dagestan from 2010 to 2013. He was appointed to the post while Dmitry Medvedev was president.

Abdulaev and Medvedev studied together. In 2015, criminal proceedings were initiated against him for abuse of office.

According to investigators, he damaged the university with more than 20 million rubles, intended for quick payments to students. The investigation was completed in 2017, but there was no trial.

Since Putin began his invasion of Ukraine, 10 Russian oligarchs and people connected to the Putin regime have died in unexplained circumstances.
