China will lose the ‘title’ of the most populous country

India

For several decades now, China has proudly held the ‘title’ of the country with the most inhabitants in the whole world, but next year this will change.

The United Nations predicts that it is precisely India that will overtake China as the most populous country in the world next year.

In 2023, China will no longer be the most populous country in the world, leaving the “glorious title” to India, according to United Nations forecasts.

China has had the largest population in the world since the 1950s, when the UN began keeping records of the demographics of different countries.

But it is now projected to experience an absolute decline in its population starting in 2023.

The UN still estimates its population at around 1.426 billion in 2022.

This is larger than the entire population of Europe (744 million) and America (1.04 billion), almost combined.

It is also roughly equal to the population of all the nations in Africa (1.427 billion).

The UN predicts that China’s population will drop from 1.426 billion this year to 1.313 billion by 2050 and below 800 million by 2100.

This is according to the “middle version” of the UN, or the average projection, since the decline could be even greater, as a result of the decline in the birth rate, the postponement of the childbearing age for women or even emigration abroad.
