UK sanctions four Russian tycoons financing Putin’s war

The British Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces that it has placed on the sanctions list four Russian tycoons who finance Vladimir Putin‘s war in Ukraine.

Among those sanctioned are Alexander Abramov and Alexander Frolov, whom the country associates with businessman Roman Abramovich, sanctioned by London at the beginning of this year.

“Putin continues to be supported by the selected elite in order to maintain his control and to promote his illegal occupation of Ukraine.

Today we are sanctioning four more oligarchs who support Putin in exchange for funding his military machine.

By sanctioning these individuals, we are increasing economic pressure on Putin and will continue to do so until Ukraine prevails,” said British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley.

Also sanctioned today are Airat Shaimiev, who has a net worth of £902 million, and Albert Shigabutdinov, who has a net worth of £977 million.

Like Abramov and Frolov, they are both subject to travel bans, asset freezes and transit sanctions.
