Three dead in shooting at University of Virginia

A gunman killed three people and wounded two others on the main campus of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville on Sunday.

The suspect — identified as a student — remains at large, university president Jim Ryan said in a statement released Monday.

The campus was advised to evacuate around 10:40 p.m. local time after the shooting was reported on Culbreth Road.

He has been on lockdown while authorities search for the suspect.

The suspect, identified by police as Christopher Darnell Jones, Jr., is believed to be armed and dangerous.

He is described as wearing a jacket with blue jeans and red shoes and may be driving a black SUV, according to police.

University officials have not identified the victims or said whether they were students.
