On Thursday, Amazon said it plans to hire 150,000 new workers across America to handle increased demand ahead of the busy holiday shopping season.

The jobs, which include full-time, seasonal and part-time jobs, range from packing and picking to sorting and loading, the company said. The announcement comes just days before another Prime Day shopping event takes place.

Amazon raises its hiring numbers every holiday season, but this year they’re doing so in a tight labor market and with rising inflation adding to the pressure on companies to raise wages. Last week, Amazon announced it would raise hourly pay for warehouse and delivery workers.

With this increase, Amazon workers will now earn approximately 20 euros per hour based on their position and location within the US, an increase from the previous average of approximately 19 euros per hour.

On Thursday, the company announced that it will provide additional bonuses for newly opened positions for the holiday season, starting from 1,000 euros and up to 3,000 euros in certain locations.

Some of the states that offer the most positions are California, Illinois, and Texas.

The hiring news comes amid several high-profile union moves at Amazon warehouses, including its Alabama and New York facilities.

The Amazon Labor Union secured a major victory with the formation of the first US labor union at the firm’s Staten Island facility in New York earlier this year.

Next week, workers at another facility near Albany, New York, plan to vote to join the same union.
