Truss: We will continue to impose sanctions on Russia

UK

British Prime Minister Liz Truss commented on the announcement of the Russian mobilization and invasion of Ukraine in her interview.

“Putin made a strategic mistake by invading Ukraine. I think the Ukrainians beat him. We have seen the Ukrainians continue to fight. And I don’t think he anticipated the strength of the reaction from the free world,” Truss said.

Asked how Western leaders should respond if Putin increases military activity in Ukraine, Truss said they should not listen to false threats.

“Instead, what we should do is continue to impose sanctions on Russia and continue to support the Ukrainians. If Putin is allowed to succeed, he would not only send a terrible message to Europe and, of course, a huge threat to the Ukrainian population itself, but it would also send a message to other authoritarian regimes around the world that this it is somehow acceptable – an invasion of a sovereign nation,” she said.

“That is why it is so important that we remain firm, that we do not listen to the sound of the guns that Putin threatens, and that we continue to support the Ukrainians until the end. That’s what the UK is going to do,” Truss said.
