Samsung says foldable phones will be the new standard

Foldable smartphones have finally caught the eye with the Galaxy Z Fold 3, but the Galaxy Z Flip 3 has gotten more attention. Now, as the next round of these phones hits the market, Samsung believes that within the next few years, the phones will inevitably become the brand’s most popular premium smartphones.

Samsung head Roh Tae-moon is reported to have said during a conference in New York this week that the company believes that within the next few years, foldable phones will account for over “50 percent” of premium phones sold by Samsung. More specifically, Samsung believes that this change will happen by 2025.

“By 2025, foldable phones will account for over 50 percent of Samsung’s premium smartphone shipments. “Foldable phones will become the new standard of smartphones,” said Roh Tae-moon.

Samsung, of course, is currently the leader in the foldable smartphone market. This report cites data from Omdia which states that Samsung has sold about 7.1 million units of the Galaxy Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 combined, in a market that totals about 9 million units in total, and before the launch of the Fold 4, Samsung claims that 10 million foldable phones have been sold worldwide by all manufacturers.

However, 7.1 million units sold is far from being Samsung’s most popular line by volume. The company has shipped about 271.5 million devices in 2021, most of them consisting of affordable and mid-range devices.

But on the premium side, Samsung is currently closer than many of you might think.
