Ukrainian officials say work has resumed at the grain ports

Ukrainian officials say work has resumed at the grain ports.

Ukraine says work has begun on three ports aimed at creating “green corridors” to allow grain exports.

A spokesman for the Odesa military administration said naval teams will build roads from the southern ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi.

Once the routes are established, “caravans” of ships led by Ukrainian naval vessels will sail across the Black Sea, Serhiy Bratchuk said.

Kiev and Moscow reached an agreement to allow wheat exports last week.

Under the deal, which was brokered by Turkey and the UN, Russia agreed not to target ports while the grain was in transit, while Ukraine pledged to steer cargo ships through waters that have been mined.

However, the deal was thrown into chaos less than 24 hours after the agreement was signed, when two Russian missiles targeted a port in the city of Odesa.

One of only two crossings over the Dnipro River near Kherson, Russian forces rely on it to resupply troops west of the river.

Kiev has heavily targeted the bridge in recent days in hopes of isolating Moscow’s troops. Sergiy Khlan, a senior Ukrainian official, said the counteroffensive was achieving its goals and that the region would be “finally liberated by September.”

The UK defense ministry said Ukraine was likely to have suffered setbacks elsewhere.
