Los Angeles‘ $600 million bridge closes.

Just two weeks after its opening, the city authorities decided to close the new bridge to traffic.

It’s a new bridge in Los Angeles that became a black spot in the city just hours after opening. Although it is a modern building built in accordance with the most modern traffic achievements, accidents are frequent.

The cause is illegal racing, due to which this bridge gained a bad name in just a few days.

After a grand opening with many famous faces, exhibitions and concerts, the Sixth Street Bridge, more precisely the viaduct that connects the Arts Districts and Boyle Heights in Los Angeles, opened to the public and already on the first night, illegal races took place.

Fresh asphalt and a fairly long straight section attracted racing fans. Soon there was a traffic accident and then new ones lined up.

To make things even worse, skaters also arrived who saw the arches as a new training ground, and with that much more dangerous. Many lovers of “real” photography decided to climb the bridge to have an attractive photo or video for social networks, while for the same reason motorists burn tires on the fresh asphalt. According to the police, most have come to the bridge for “15 minutes of fame”

The nearly $600 million, 1,100-meter-long bridge, which was built on the site of the old viaduct that collapsed six years ago, has become a dangerous gathering place for multiple groups. It is the first bridge in Los Angeles built in the time of TikTok and Instagram, but also the first to close.

Namely, after the police were forced to close the bridge for three days in a row, it was decided to close the bridge to traffic until further notice. The drastic decision comes after no other measures have helped. Now they will likely install raised guardrails on the bridge and supports will be placed on the asphalt surface, LAPD Chief Michel Moore confirmed.

In the meantime, it will be necessary to clean the numerous graffiti that have appeared on the arches of the bridge, as well as renewing the security equipment of the bridge that has suffered so far.
