Ukraine reports “massive” attack by Belarus.

Ukraine has said it faced “mass bombings” on Saturday from neighboring Belarus, which is known as an ally of Russia but has not been formally involved in the conflict.

Twenty rockets have targeted the village of Desna in the Chernihiv region, the Ukrainian military said in a statement, adding that infrastructure had been hit but no casualties had been reported.

Belarus has provided logistical support to Moscow since launching its occupation of Ukraine on February 24.

Belarus, like Russia, has faced Western sanctions.

“Today’s attacks are directly linked to the Kremlin’s efforts to involve Belarus as a comrade-in-arms in the war in Ukraine,” the Ukrainian intelligence service said in a statement.

The attacks came ahead of a meeting scheduled for Saturday between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko, in St. Petersburg.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the invasion of Ukraine on February 24.

He called the war a “special military operation” to demilitarize Ukraine.

The West has responded to Russia by hitting the country’s economy with tough sanctions.
