A rare case of monkeypox has been diagnosed in a patient in England, the UK Health and Safety Agency said in a statement on Saturday.
Monkeyspox are a rare viral infection that does not spread easily among humans, the agency said, calling the overall risk to the general public “very low.”
“Infection can spread when someone is in close contact with an infected person; however, there is a very low risk of transmission to the general population, ”the statement said.
The patient is believed to have contracted the infection in Nigeria, the UKHSA said, before recently returning to the UK.
As it is known, the patient is receiving treatment in London in the unit of infectious diseases and isolation experts.
