The situation in eastern Ukraine remains dire.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, delivered his speech in the late hours of the night.

Among other things, he said that it seems that Russian troops are withdrawing from the north of the country, describing the withdrawal as “slow but visible”, reports Telegrafi.

Zelensky added that the situation in eastern Ukraine remains dire, while believing that Russia is preparing for new attacks in the Donbas and Kharkiv regions.

Speaking in an interview, the Ukrainian leader stressed that it seems that the sanctions imposed on Moscow by the West are working.

However, Zelensky estimates that further pressure is needed.

Meanwhile, a Red Cross column traveling to the Ukrainian city of Mariupol will make another attempt to evacuate civilians from the besieged port.

Mariupol has been ruthlessly targeted by the Russians since the first days of the five-week aggression.

An estimated 100,000 people are stranded there with little access to food and water.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) sent a team on Friday to guide about 54 Ukrainian buses and other private vehicles to get out of the city.

But they returned after finding that the circumstances were too dangerous.
