Macron wants no verbal escalation.

French President Emmanuel Macron has warned and opposed verbal escalation over the war in Ukraine, just a day after his US counterpart Joe Biden described Russian leader Vladimir Putin as a butcher, stressing that he should not remain in power.

In this regard, Macron reacted and told the French media that his goal is a ceasefire in Ukraine and the withdrawal of Russian troops from this country.

He said that through verbal escalation there can be no action. US officials have denied that Biden called for a change of regime in Russia after making the remarks during a visit to Poland.

Macron has been in contact with the Russian president since the outbreak of the aggression in Ukraine – and has even vowed to talk to Putin over the phone over the next two days to arrange for the evacuation of civilians from the port city of Mariupol, which has been under Russian occupation since the beginning of the invasion.
