La Liga

La Liga is “aging”, the oldest league in the top five.

Data provided by CIES show that La Liga is the fourth league in Europe with the oldest players.

The Spanish La Liga has an average age of 27.9 years, while it comes only after the Greek Super League (28.6), the Cyprus Super League (28.5) and the Turkish Super League (28.5).

La Liga Spain is the oldest of the top five leagues on the Old Continent. Serie A and Premier League are those that follow La Liga, with an average of 27.2; then comes the Bundesliga, with an average age of 26.6 years.

Elche is the club that has 11 players who are over 30 years old and their average as a team is more than 29.

If we look at the leader of La Liga, Real Madrid, things do not change much. Up to 10 of its players are also over thirty.

The ‘Elders’ of La Liga

In La Liga you can find players who are 40 years old, like Diego López (Espanyol) and Joaquin (Betis).

But there are also those who are close to this age like Jorge Molina (39) or Dani Alves (38).

Another thing is that these players are still at an optimal enough level to deliver the best in the highest category of Spanish football and play very often.
