France, Turkey and Greece will evacuate civilians.
Officials from Turkey, France and Greece have announced they will organize a joint humanitarian action aimed at evacuating Mariupol residents.
According to the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, the humanitarian situation in the port city of Mariupol is on the verge of disaster and therefore an urgent response of the countries is needed.
“Together with Turkey and Greece, we will launch a humanitarian operation to evacuate all those who want to leave Mariupol. We are communicating with the mayor of Mariupol. “The city had more than 400,000 inhabitants, while today it has only 150,000 and they live in a terrible state,” Macron said.
He also stressed that in the coming days he will talk again with Russian President Vladimir Putin and that the topic of the meeting should be the humanitarian situation in Mariupol.
The Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, also spoke about the situation in this Ukrainian city, saying that there is also a large Greek community living in the city that needs help.
“The Ukrainian city, home to a large Greek community, has been tempted by unprecedented Russian attacks. “Unfortunately, they do not distinguish between Ukrainian troops and civilians,” Mitsotakis said.
In addition to coordinating activities with Russian President Vladimir Putin, on the eve of the start of the humanitarian action, officials from France, Turkey and Greece will coordinate actions with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
